Winnipeg Airports Authority applauds Minister Garneau’s action on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – March 16, 2017 - Winnipeg Airports Authority welcomes Minister Garneau’s announcement today to introduce measures targeted at reckless users of unmanned aerial vehicles.

“Operators need to understand their responsibilities when flying unmanned aerial vehicles,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “Stronger regulation combined with increased education will make safer skies for everyone.”

The Interim Order announced today impacts unmanned aerial vehicles of more than 250 g and up to and including 35 kg. Under the new order, operators must mark drones with their contact information and may not fly within 9 kilometres of the centre of the airport.

A copy of the order is available from Transport Canada.
