Winnipeg Richardson International Airport Set to Welcome 2017 Canada Summer Games Athletes

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – July 26, 2017 – Athletes competing in the 2017 Canada Summer Games and their families will begin arriving in force tomorrow at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

“We are excited and proud to be a part of this wonderful event for our city and province,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “As the front door to our community we are looking forward to kicking off the welcome for these talented young athletes, their families, and visitors coming to our city to attend the 50th anniversary Canada Games.”

The largest groups of athletes and family members are expected to travel through Winnipeg Richardson International Airport on July 27, August 5, and on August 13 as the Canada Games wrap up.

WAA expects to see about 2,000 additional passengers arrive on July 27, making it one of the busiest days of the year.

While 120 of the nearly 4,000 employees at the airport campus remain on strike, there has been no significant operational impact at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. PSAC has publicly stated it will not disrupt passengers, and Winnipeg Airports Authority does not expect any interruption to operations during the Games.
