Winnipeg Richardson International Airport Set to Welcome 2nd Wave of CSG Athletes

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – August 4, 2017 – Winnipeg Richardson International Airport will be a hub of activity Saturday as we say goodbye to the first wave of athletes for the 2017 Canada Summer Games and welcome the second wave of athletes to our city.

“Together with our community we welcome a new group of athletes to our city as they get set to chase their dreams,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “We also congratulate those athletes returning home after competing this week, some with medals and personal bests, but all with incredible memories of our city and province”.

Saturday will mark one of the busiest days of the year for Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. We expect to see over 15,000 passengers on August 5, 4,000 more than an average day. Sunday, August 13 will also be a busy day for the airport as the Canada Summer Games wrap up.

WAA has been working closely with our airport partners to ensure minimal travel disruptions as a result of higher volumes of passenger traffic at the airport Saturday. We are encouraging anyone travelling to the airport Saturday to allow some extra time as there may be some longer lines and wait times. Travellers are encouraged to visit waa.ca or connect on Twitter @YWGairport for travel updates.
