Winnipeg Richardson International Airport Set to Say Goodbye to Last of 2017 Canada Summer Games Athletes

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – August 12, 2017 – Winnipeg Richardson International Airport will see a flurry of activity on Sunday as we say goodbye to the athletes, coaches and families in our city for the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

“The 2017 Canada Summer Games have been an incredible success for our community. In this our country’s 150th year, we are especially proud to be the first and last impression of our city for many of the athletes, coaches and families,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “We congratulate everyone who participated in the games and knowing they have lifelong memories of their experience in our city and province, hope to see them back on the Hug Rug very soon”.

Sunday will see over 2,000 athletes, coaches and families departing from the airport throughout the afternoon and evening, making it another busy day for Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

WAA has been working closely with our airport partners to ensure minimal travel disruptions as a result of higher volumes of passenger traffic at the airport Sunday. We are encouraging anyone travelling to the airport Sunday afternoon or evening to allow some extra time as there may be some longer lines and wait times. Travellers are encouraged to visit waa.ca or connect on Twitter @YWGairport for travel updates.
