Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. Strengthens Hunger for Hope Partnership

Winnipeg – Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. is proud to strengthen its partnership in Hunger for Hope, an initiative aimed at ending child hunger in Manitoba.

“The newly designed receptacles not only reflect the transparent open space of the new building but the openness of our community in terms of giving,” said Barry Rempel, President & CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “We are proud to strengthen our partnership with Corus Radio and Winnipeg Harvest in the goal of ending child hunger in Manitoba.”

“Winnipeg Airports Authority is a valuable partner as we continue to make a difference by feeding hungry children in Manitoba,” said Garth Buchko, General Manager, Corus Entertainment. “We are excited to re-launch this initiative at Canada’s newest and greenest airport to raise monies and awareness for Hunger for Hope. CJOB’s morning show with Hal Anderson and Richard Cloutier Reports will both be live at the airport December 21.”

Touching down December 21, eight newly designed collection receptacles will be placed in the airport. Winnipeg Airports Authority entered into a partnership with Corus Entertainment for the Hunger for Hope campaign in December 2009. The partnership began with the placement of eight (8) baby bottle collection bins placed around the previous airport. During those two years, travellers, staff and visitors to the airport donated $21,780.

About Hunger for Hope:
Corus Radio made a commitment to Winnipeg Harvest to raise $200,000 a year to help eradicate child hunger in Manitoba. Over the last three years Hunger for Hope has raised close to $700,000 to address this issue. Winnipeg Harvest feeds approximately 55,000 individuals each month – over half of these are children. Manitoba has the highest percentage of children using food banks in Canada! Despite the generous food donations by individuals and businesses in Manitoba, there is never enough infant formula and baby food to meet demand. As a result, Winnipeg Harvest has an annual cash operating cost of $200,000 designated strictly for the purchase of formula and nutritious food to feed pre-school aged children. The goal of “Hunger for Hope” is to cover this cost and establish an endowment fund to cover this cost for years to come.
