Harvest Garden: Planting Seeds for Success
July 27, 2018
Here at YWG, community is central to everything we do. From getting air travellers where they need to go and facilitating numerous cargo shipments, to inducing more than 17,000 jobs for our region and an economic impact of 3.4 billion dollars, it all comes back to taking care of and enhancing this community. In addition to our efforts in aviation and business, we enjoy supporting our community in different ways as well. One way we’ve done so for the past 21 consecutive years is working with Winnipeg Harvest to help feed hope.
Food security is a pivotal topic for everyone. As an issue that unfortunately affects every community, we’ve been working with Winnipeg Harvest to eradicate it across the city. We’ve enlisted the help of WAA staff and volunteers to tend our airport’s Harvest Garden. In the garden located on our property, we grow vegetables for those less fortunate. The beets, carrots, onions and potatoes we grow help to stock the kitchen at Harvest and provide additional stock for use as needed.
Over the years, our garden has grown more than 50,000 lbs. of vegetables and positive effects. We continue making contributions by working with partners like Winnipeg Harvest and hand-in-hand with other groups to help every part of our community go above and beyond.
