Baggage Handling System Upgrades at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport

Continuing on from our last post about this topic, we wanted to give you more insight about the Baggage Handling System enhancements being made right here at YWG. This is a joint venture between Winnipeg Richardson International Airport and CATSA.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to provide a little more insight into what we're doing right here in YWG!

What work is underway?
To ensure the safety and security of passengers travelling through Winnipeg Richardson International Airport, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) together with the airport have begun to renovate our baggage handling system and up-gauge it to handle increased volumes.

Why is this work being done?
As Winnipeg Richardson International Airport's traffic volume continues to grow, we need to ensure we have the equipment to handle our volume today at peak times, and into the future as our traffic steadily grows. These and other upgrades around the campus will help our airport accommodate the growth we continue to see.

Who is impacted?
The airport may see minor impacts to queue times but is still operating under normal conditions throughout the duration of the renovation. Winnipeg Richardson International Airport advises you to get to the airport a little bit earlier in order to ensure that you have enough time to get through security and account for any surprises once the day of your travel arrives.

How long will it take?
The project is intended to be complete by early 2020.
