New Kitakyushu Airport
June 24, 2008
Good morning all!
I am writing to you from a different computer this morning. Unfortunately my machine decided not to work at all since I arrived at my office today. Every single time I open up an email, the whole thing crashes. Very frustrating! However, IT is working on it right now- and this computer is doing just fine as far as blogging goes, anyway!
Today’s blog is about the New Kitakyushu Airport. This airport is built on a man made island in Suo nada, the most westerly part of the Seto Inland Sea. The old Kitakyushu Airport was located in Kokura Minami-ku, Kitakyûshû, Japan (and I don’t have a clue how to pronounce that so please don’t ask me!). The runway was quite short (1600 meters) so larger aircrafts could not land there- therefore, they built a new one! The new airport opened in March 2006, and the airport-island is connected to the mainland at Rinku-Town by a three kilometer bridge, which is absolutely gorgeous- take a look!
