WANT TO BE AIRPORT FIRE CAPTAIN FOR A DAY?
Winnipeg Airports Authority firefighters are holding a contest during Fire Prevention Week (October 3-9, 2010) for a chance to be Airport Fire Captain for the Day! The contest is open to youth aged 12 to 18 who are interested in fire prevention.
Two winners will be chosen to be Airport Fire Captain for the Day which includes a day at the airport fire hall with fire safety instruction, an overview of airport firefighting, a pizza lunch and a parting gift bag with fire safety equipment.
Two ways to enter:
1. YouTube Video – In a creative two minute video, answer the question "Why do you want to be Airport Fire Captain for the Day?" Upload your video to the Winnipeg Airports Authority YouTube account - username: YWGcontest , password: firecaptain . Include your first name in the title of the video so we may identify which video is yours, for example, “Why You Should Pick Me As Fire Captain for the Day – Jonathan”.
Once you’ve uploaded your video to YouTube, please send an email to email@example.com and provide the name of the video, your full name, age, email address and phone number. Do not include your personal information directly in the video. You may upload your video between now and October 15, 2010.
2. Essay – In a 300-500 word essay, answer the question "Why do you want to be Airport Fire Captain for the Day?" Include your full name, age, email address and phone number and send to the address below. Entries must be received by October 15, 2010.

Whether you choose to submit a YouTube video or an essay, all applicants between the ages of 12 and 17 must obtain approval from a parent or legal guardian in order to participate in the contest. Please have your parent or legal guardian send an email giving their consent for your participation to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once submitted, all videos and essays become the property of Winnipeg Airports Authority and may be shown on the waa.ca website and used for other internal purposes. We thank all applicants, however only those selected as Airport Fire Captain for the Day will be contacted. Good luck!
The Winnipeg Airports Authority Fire Department is mandated to provide fire protection services in the event of an aircraft incident or accident at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport. Although that remains the main focus, the fire department also provides first responder medical services to airport users as well as the airport community, hazardous material response, initial response to structural buildings, fire prevention and inspection programs and offers fire and safety training programs.
Winnipeg Airports Authority maintains a staff of 16 professional firefighters and operates 24 hours a day year round and trained to the standards of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and the National Fire Protection Association. Staff are members of the South Interlake Mutual Aid District and work closely with The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and 17 Wing Winnipeg Fire Department.
