Olympic Bronze Medalist Desiree Scott

Winnipeg Airports Authority was honoured to welcome home soccer star, Desiree Scott, yesterday evening at a special event at the airport. We were filled with pride to see a local hero bring home a Bronze medal from the London 2012 Olympic Games.

It was an emotionally charged event with approximately 500 well-wishers chanting Desiree’s name and breaking out into O Canada in the Arrivals Hall. In addition to Desiree’s proud family, the crowd included six girl’s soccer teams holding signs and dressed in team uniforms.

Also in the crowd to support and cheer on Desiree, were representatives from the Manitoba Soccer Association, the Canadian Soccer Association and the University of Manitoba, where Desiree played soccer for the Bisons.

Winnipeg Airports Authority was pleased to provide Desiree’s fans with 200 pairs of red Canada mittens in celebration of her Olympic medal.

Our President & CEO, Barry Rempel, presented Desiree with a President's Award of Excellence in honour of her outstanding performance in London and for being such a great role model and leader in our community.

Despite the jetlag, Desiree was a champ and took the time to sign autographs for her fans.

Thanks to all Manitobans who came down to the airport to welcome back our hometown hero.
