10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Winnipeg Airports Authority and its partners raised $30,000 during the 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament in support of the Firefighters’ Burn Fund. Over the past 10 years, we have raised $202,500 to help support burn survivors and their families.

Despite the wet weather forecast, it turned out to be a clear sunny day to hit the links. The tournament was sold out with a total of 40 teams participating.

Congratulations to the foursome from the City of Winnipeg who had the best score of the day. The winning team is pictured above from left to right: Curtis Shewchuk, Marc Pittet, Richard Kachur, and Councillor Jeff Browaty.

Everyone had lots of fun and in addition to golfing, there were activities along the course such as the WAA plane throw, photos with our antique fire truck, the longest drive contest, the closest to the pin contest, plus food and drink stops at the holes. These activities added to the excitement and allowed golfers the chance to win prizes and have a few laughs.

We would like to thank our title sponsor, CIBC, for their generous and ongoing support.

We would also like to thank the following sponsors:

Cart sponsors:  Greyhound and Skidata

Wine sponsor:  Payne Transportation

Lunch sponsor: Pepsi

Media sponsor: Winnipeg Free Press

Sign sponsor: Lightvisions

Lastly, thanks to the many hole and prize sponsors for their generous support. Without the help of all of our sponsors, this tournament would not be possible.

It was a privilege to have guest speaker, John Hart, share his experience with us about being a burn survivor. John credits the Firefighters’ Burn Fund for assisting many burn survivors overcome their personal obstacles on the road to recovery.

The Firefighters’ Burn Fund is a volunteer organization of firefighters who donate their time and efforts to raising funds to support burn victims and their families, treatment and rehabilitation, fire prevention education and research. For further information, visit the Firefighters’ Burn Fund website.

We look forward to hosting the event again next year and continuing our partnerships in support of this worthwhile cause.
