2013's Memorable Moments

As 2013 draws to an end, we wanted to take a look back at some of the most memorable moments of the year at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Throughout the year, the airport saw its fair share of heartwarming moments. Among them was a touching marriage proposal. Dressed in a black tuxedo and carrying a dozen roses, Scott Marohn, our director of Air Service Development & Industry Relations, got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend – now wife – Sandy Leishman in the Arrivals Hall.

Love and happy feelings were also in the air as we unveiled the YWG Hug Rug in the Arrivals Hall this year. Whether it’s children greeting their grandparents for the holidays, couples reconnecting or proud families greeting servicemen and servicewomen home, those great moments happened at the Hug Rug.

The terminal building also saw dreams come true for many children. Make-A-Wish granted a special boy named Colin a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. To create a memorable experience, Colin was greeted at the airport by Star Wars characters before checking in for his flight.

In April, 133 children had their wildest dreams come true as they spent the day at Disney World through Dreams Take Flight. Winnipeg Airports Authority was proud to support this wonderful community event. The volunteers and organizations involved did a tremendous job creating a memorable experience!

We also hosted young visionaries from the Youth Agencies Alliance who unveiled a diorama showcasing their ideal version of Winnipeg. We were proud to showcase their multi-layered display in the airport.

As we look back on the year that was with warmth and pride, we also look forward to the year ahead. Thank you to all those who helped make 2013 a memorable one!
