Gearing up for the Women’s World Cup

In celebration of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFA representatives are hosting a PoolBall table in the Arrivals Hall on Saturday, April 4.

Travellers and greeters will have the opportunity to play the game, which is a combination of pool and soccer. Tournament mascot Shuéme will also be at the airport, in addition to soccer ball jugglers from the Manitoba Soccer Association.

The Women’s World Cup is an international tournament that takes place every 4 years. Canada is this year’s host country with games being played in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal and Moncton.

Winnipeg hosts Group D, with teams from Australia, Nigeria, Sweden and two-time winners USA set to play at Investors Group Field. The city also hosts several games from other groups, including Thailand vs. two-time World Cup champions Germany, China PR vs. New Zealand, and tournament newcomers Ecuador vs. defending World Cup champions Japan.

The tournament kicks off on June 6 in Edmonton when Canada takes on China PR.
