Dreams Take Flight 2015
April 21, 2015
While 5:00 a.m. may not be the happiest time on earth for most people, it definitely will be tomorrow for a group of Winnipeg children. At 5 o’clock tomorrow morning, 127 children clad in matching red t-shirts will depart from Winnipeg Richardson International Airport bound for the happiest place on earth, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The one-day all-expenses paid trip is an initiative of Dreams Take Flight, a national not-for-profit organization that provides local children with physical, mental or social challenges with the opportunity to just be a kid for the day in Disney World.
Operating in eight cities across Canada, Dreams Take Flight is comprised of Air Canada volunteers including pilots and flight attendants, plus community members, and family and friends who donate their time and services to give children these once-in-a-lifetime memories. Air Canada donates an aircraft in each city to – literally – lift dreams into the air.
Winnipeg Airports Authority is honored to support this fun-filled initiative through in-kind donations.
Funds raised throughout the year help pay for park admission, spending money, and souvenirs for each child, along with attending parents and chaperons.
So while many grown-ups are hitting the snooze button in the morning, these children will be well on their way to a day filled with rides on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Pirates of the Caribbean, and hugs from Mickey & Minnie.
Special thanks to Air Canada and all the volunteers who help make Dreams Take Flight a possibility.
