Community engagement

Winnipeg Airports Authority is committed to giving back to the community to help build a better place to call home. Our community is at the heart of everything we do and we aim to continue contributing in meaningful ways to our city and province as part of our corporate social and environmental responsibility.

WAA is involved with Girls in Aviation Day, offers a scholarship for a deserving graduate in the community, and supports local initiatives such as Winnipeg Harvest, United Way, the Christmas Cheer Board, and Siloam Mission throughout the year.

Sponsorships and donations

We recognize sponsorship as a valuable opportunity to create a strong connection between the airport and the community we serve. We appreciate being considered as a sponsor for any event or organization. All sponsorship agreements we enter into are consistent with our mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

Our priorities are to support:

  • Travel and tourism organizations
  • Selected charitable organizations
  • Community organizations

Requests for sponsorship should be submitted as early as possible as resources may not be available due to other sponsorship commitments. Requests must also be submitted annually as ongoing support should not be assumed. If several requests are made by one organization, preference will be given to the first request received. While most requests are worthy of sponsorship, WAA can only support a small percentage of the requests we receive.

Where possible, WAA should be provided with tickets, admission, or other promotional products as part of the sponsorship.

Evaluation criteria

Sponsorship applications are assessed according to the following criteria:

  • Availability of funds or materials
  • Proposed benefits to the community
  • Relationship between level of sponsorship sought and proposed benefit to WAA
  • Community visibility

Generally, WAA will not provide sponsorship for wedding socials, recreational sports teams, personal or school fundraisers, animal health, hospitals, or social clubs.

Open House and Travel Expo

Each fall, we host our annual Open House and Travel Expo to welcome our community into the airport. Join us for behind-the-scenes tours of the airport, a variety of local and industry-related vendors, live entertainment, and giveaways.

Travel and tourism

WAA supports organizations such as Tourism Winnipeg and Travel Manitoba whose mandates are to promote travel and tourism to the region and/or encourage economic development.

Community organizations

WAA is proud to support many local arts and cultural organizations and partner with local professional sports teams to maximize awareness in the community. WAA takes special note of event requests from businesses and partners on the airport campus, including the military.
