As Winnipeg and Manitoba continues to grow as a transportation hub and travel destination, Winnipeg Richardson International Airport needs to provide efficient services and excellent facilities to meet the needs of our community.
Winnipeg Airports Authority is continually making improvements to the airport to serve our community and meet the demands of the ever-evolving aviation industry. These improvements are intended to serve our community with a modern and efficient airport, capable of handling increased traffic while exceeding customer expectations. WAA's Airport Improvement Fee helps facilitate updates and changes to support the efficient function and operation of the airport. AIF revenue goes towards funding critical infrastructure improvements, including the airfield and the terminal. It is used to build, improve, or maintain infrastructure and does not pay for costs associated with running the airport.
As of September 1, 2020, air carriers operating out of the terminal add a $38 AIF directly to ticket purchases for flights from Winnipeg. The fee does not apply to arriving passengers who continue their journey within four hours. The air carriers retain 7% of the AIF as a processing fee.
