Travellers walk past a festively decorated tree in the domestic and international boarding gate area of Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

To borrow a page from the classic holiday hit, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. On top of all the parties for hosting and marshmallows for toasting, hearts will be glowing as many Manitobans take off to connect with family, friends, and loved ones.

If you’re one of the tens of thousands of travellers who will be passing through Winnipeg Richardson International Airport during the festive season, it’s important to make a list and check it twice to ensure your trip goes smoothly. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Know before you go

Be sure to check the travel requirements for all the countries on your itinerary, including those you’re transiting through, in advance of your trip. You can confirm all the details by contacting your airline. If you need a COVID-19 test result, stop by CardiAI’s testing facility at the airport. It’s also good to double-check the status of your flight before leaving home.

Pack smart

Learn what you can and can’t put in your luggage by visiting CATSA's website. Holiday gifts may need to be opened and inspected by screening officers, so wait until you clear security to wrap them at our free gift-wrapping station, located after the checkpoint for domestic and international flights. Also, don’t forget that liquids, gels, and aerosols in your carry-on need to be in containers of 100 ml or less and fit in a clear, resealable one-litre bag.

Plan your parking

Save time and money by pre-booking your airport parking online. CAA members also receive a discount when they enter their valid membership number. Winnipeg Transit, taxi companies, and ridesharing services can also deliver you to the terminal’s front door.

Go digital

Skip the line at the airline counters by checking in for your flight online at home and saving your boarding pass to your phone. If you’re travelling internationally, you can submit your customs and immigration declarations up to 72 hours before returning home by using the CBSA’s ArriveCAN app.

Arrive early

The holidays are a busy time at YWG, so you’ll likely encounter higher passenger volumes at peak times. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your boarding gate by arriving at the airport two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before taking off to a U.S. or international destination.

Last minute shopping

Forgot someone on your holiday shopping list? From fashion-forward handbags and premium chocolates to jewelry and everything in between, the shops at YWG offer a wide range of gift options.

Have questions?

If you need help or directions at the airport, look for one of our friendly Goldwing Ambassadors in their easy-to-spot gold blazers. The team at our Information Desk, located in the Arrivals Hall near Door 3, is also ready to answer any questions you may have.
