Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. 2016 Second Quarter Results (Unaudited)
July 26, 2016
Second quarter passenger traffic at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport increased 3.68% compared to the second quarter of 2015. Consolidated revenue of Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) and its subsidiaries was $28.0 million for the second quarter, compared to $26.9 million for the same period in 2015. Earnings before interest, depreciation and taxes were $14.0 million, compared to $13.7 million for the same period in 2015.
“Continuing to measure success by understanding both our financial and community impact is delivering results. The growth in passenger traffic is testament to that ‘community-first’ approach,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “Improving connectivity while providing excellence in airport services is part of WAA’s commitment to our region.”
Route development initiatives continue to improve community connectivity through Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. WestJet’s newly launched direct non-stop flight from Winnipeg to London Gatwick has consistent high passenger use. It continues to be a favourite of travellers in our region, and brings new visitors to the market on a weekly basis. This exceptional new route began in advance of additional services scheduled to begin in the third quarter including WestJet’s Halifax route and NewLeaf Travel operations to Abbotsford, Hamilton, Kelowna, Victoria and Edmonton.
WAA’s commitment to sustainable growth reached another milestone in the second quarter. Winnipeg Richardson International Airport achieved Level One Mapping Certification under the globally recognized Airport Carbon Accreditation for year 2014 operations. Airport Carbon Accreditation is a carbon management certification program for airports that independently assesses and recognizes those looking to manage and reduce their carbon emissions. Achieving the various levels of certification will help ensure WAA continues serving our community in a socially responsible manner.
