WAA 2nd Quarter Results

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – July 31, 2017 – The second quarter of 2017 continued to be strong for the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA).

Passenger totals increased by 8.8% percent compared to the second quarter of 2016. This marks 14 consecutive months of positive passenger growth at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Consolidated revenue was $30.4 million for the second quarter, compared to $28.0 million for the same period in 2016. Earnings before interest, depreciation and taxes were $15.2 million, compared to $14.0 million for the same period in 2016.

These results bring WAA a step closer to being in a break-even financial position since opening the new terminal in October 2011.

“Our continued investment in our airport is showing we are on the right track,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of the Winnipeg Airports Authority. “We continue to grow while transforming how we operate, ensuring we are ready for the challenges of today and tomorrow.”

The rest of this summer will continue to be busy for WAA. Direct flight service to London-Gatwick is underway, as are other summer routes such as Kelowna. Winnipeg is also welcoming thousands of visitors arriving in our city for the 2017 Canada Summer Games, making this summer one of the busiest on record for Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Winnipeg Richardson International Airport serves an average of 11,000 passengers per day with flights to over 60 nonstop destinations. Winnipeg is also the number one dedicated freighter airport in Canada, keeping goods flowing efficiently and building on our community's reputation as a transportation and logistics hub.
