Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. 2017 Fourth Quarter Results (Unaudited)
January 26, 2018
WINNIPEG, Manitoba – January 26, 2018 – 2017 ended with another strong quarter for Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA), bringing to a close a record setting year for WAA and the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.
The Airport saw 4,305,744 passengers in 2017, a new record. This is a 7.2% increase over the previous year and marks four consecutive years of passenger traffic growth. The growth was spurred on by an increase of 6.3% in the fourth quarter of 2017 as compared to the fourth quarter of 2016.
Cargo traffic was also up in 2017, further enhancing Winnipeg’s reputation as a cargo freighter hub.
Consolidated revenue for WAA was $31.4 million for the fourth quarter, compared to $29.1 million for the same period in 2016. Earnings before interest, depreciation and taxes were $11.1 million for the fourth quarter of 2017. Annual financial results will be released at WAA’s Annual Public Meeting on April 25, 2018.
"Our continued success is a direct result of having a clear vision and an aggressive plan to achieve our goals,” said Barry Rempel, President and CEO of WAA. “WAA continues to lead transportation innovation and growth to help drive Manitoba’s economy in collaboration with airport campus partners and our community.”
In October, WAA continued its support of Winnipeg Harvest, donating over 6,500 pounds of fresh vegetables from its Harvest Garden at the airport campus. In November, WAA was recognized as one of Manitoba’s Top 25 Employers for 2018, the seventh consecutive year it has garnered this recognition.
2018 will be another busy year for WAA. Inside the terminal, passengers will see revamped food, beverage and retail options open during the year. WAA is also beginning a major transformation of the airport campus, including the cargo area on the east side of the campus. “While we are proud of our collective success, we are excited about what is next for the airport campus and delivering on the needs of our community,” Rempel added.
