Winnipeg Airports Authority operates an Emergency Response Service at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. With 4.5 million passengers travelling through the airport each year, our emergency responders play an integral role in keeping the airport environment safe for all travellers, staff and partners.
Each member of the Emergency Response Service team is trained to meet all the regulatory requirements as outlined by Transport Canada. Our emergency responders work closely with other internal and external stakeholders to address emergencies that may arise at the airport.
The department is equipped with three Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting trucks, made by Oshkosh Airport Products. These vehicles are designed to offer a comprehensive approach to target aircraft firefighting needs in the event of an emergency. Each truck is equipped with three different firefighting agents including foam, water and an auxiliary extinguishing agent.
The Winnipeg Airports Authority’s Emergency Response Service team is based on the airfield to provide access to critical areas during an emergency. This ideal location allows the team to respond to emergencies within the regulatory window of just three minutes.
