Greater connectivity out of Winnipeg Richardson International Airport is helping to open a world of possibilities for Manitobans, allowing the province to thrive socially and economically.

Winnipeg Airports Authority updated the community during its Annual Public Meeting on its ongoing efforts to grow its partnerships and secure more connections to more places that matter. In 2023, passengers flying out of YWG could choose from 47 non-stop destinations, with 12% more routes than the previous year. Among them was new, non-stop service to Atlanta, home to one of the world’s most connected airports. Since launching in September 2023, travellers departing Winnipeg have used flights to Atlanta to connect to more than 222 different destinations in 36 countries across the globe.

Along with new routes, YWG also welcomed a new airline in 2023 with the arrival of Porter Airlines. The airline will expand its presence in Winnipeg this year by adding flights to Ottawa in May. That same month, United Airlines will restore service to Chicago and Denver, bringing the number of non-stop U.S. destinations that Manitobans can fly to year-round to six – the most in the airport’s history. WestJet will also bring back daily service to Montreal, increase its frequency to Ottawa and introduce a new seasonal route to Nashville in 2024.

"Our mission focuses on the role we must play in enabling the connectivity we know the community needs, wants and deserves," said Nick Hays, President and CEO of WAA. "Compared to before the pandemic, Manitobans have so much more choice and convenience today to connect with loved ones, discover new destinations, or unlock new business opportunities. We're extremely excited about what's in store for all of us as we continue to work together with our partners to make our community an even better place to live and work."

Enhanced connectivity is just one of the many ways WAA is creating a positive impact. For the first time, the organization shared some of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments and how they’re integrated throughout its strategic plan. This approach is helping to guide WAA in its decision-making and drive it toward a more sustainable, responsible future for all.
