Baggage System Upgrades Underway

September 17, 2019

Categories: At YWG

Improvements to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport's baggage system that were announced earlier this year are now underway. These changes will allow us to handle increased baggage as passenger volumes through Winnipeg Richardson International Airport continue to grow. Work will be completed in Spring 2020.

What should passengers expect?

During the renovation passengers will see hoarding (temporary walls) along the conveyor belt where passengers normally place their checked luggage. Passengers will instead follow the clearly marked signs to the baggage screening stations located adjacent to the usual bag drop area. Much of the work will take place in the baggage area in the airport's lower level, out of passengers' view.

Will there be delays?

We expect passenger impacts to be minimal while these enhancements are underway. During peak periods there may be minor impacts to queue times. Extra staff are on hand to facilitate baggage handling and get passengers on their way. We will adjust staffing levels as needed to ensure checking baggage remains as quick and convenient as possible.

Who is implementing these improvements?

Enhancing the airport's Baggage Handling System is a joint initiative between Winnipeg Richardson International Airport and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA)
